Just before 3 pm on Monday, the Cheswold Fire Company was dispatched to a combine fire in a wheat field on Percheron Lane, just off of Seven Hickories Road.  Command 43 responded immediately with Deputy Chief Josh Dempsey.  He arrived to find a large combine on fire in a mowed section of a wheat field next to several acres of standing wheat.  Brush 43-0 arrived next and the crew began to attack the combine fire to cut it off from the standing wheat.  Engine 43-2 arrived a few minutes later for water supply and to put foam lines into service.  Command requested a brush piece and engine assist from Smryna in case the fire spread to the field.  The combine crews extinguished the combine fire and managed to save the crop from fire damage.
