The Cheswold Fire Company was approached by a staff member of Congressman Carney about an opportunity to apply for a grant through the Department of Agriculture. We were just about to begin the process of replacing our radios that are due to be obsolete in a few years at a cost of over $100,000. We had planned to replace them over the next few years due the expense. At the same time, we also needed more chairs for the hall. We applied for a $50,000 grant with a match of $50,000 that would pay for the radios and the chairs all at once. This also allowed us to take advantage of a $1,000 rebate offered by Motorola that is available right now for each radio we trade in. While the $50,000 was more than we had planned to spend this year, the officers of the company felt that it was worth it to make the purchase now while the grant was available.
We held a small press conference on Friday to announce the grant award. On hand were Congressman Carney, State Senator Lawson, and State Representative Paradee, as well as a representative from the US Department of Agriculture. We would like to thank those that helped us obtain this grant and better serve our citizens.
