The Cheswold volunteers were preparing to do the weekly equipment checks on Monday night around 7 pm when the alarm came in for a structure fire on Lenora Drive off of Bryn Zion Road outside of Kenton. Seconds later, the 911 center upgraded the call to a working alarm and added Clayton and Smyrna fire companies. Deputy Chief Dempsey arrived to find a two-car garage involved in fire with a large camper as an exposure. Units from Clayton arrived next and pulled a hose to the structure and began to force open the doors. Cheswold Engine 43-2 arrived shortly thereafter and laid a supply line down Lenora Drive to the fire and pulled a second hose from Clayton's engine and supported their attack.
Smyrna arrived and supplied the operation with their tanker and provided some additional personnel.
