Cheswold, along with Leipsic and Dover were dispatched for a building fire on Commerce Street early in the morning. This was just a short time after personnel from Cheswold had returned to bed from a rollover accident. Assistant Chief Brown arrived to find fire showing from the second floor of a multi-unit apartment house that had been converted several years ago from a single-family home with an attached store.
Engine 43-2 arrived and placed a hose in service inside the second floor apartments. They were joined by the crew of Rescue 43 and the bulk of the fire was quickly knocked down. As Dover and Leipsic arrived, access was made to the attic where the remaining fire was extinguished.
Several residents were transported to the hospital, including one with serious injuries.
Units on scene: Cheswold Engine 43-2, Rescue 43, Engine 43-4, Command 43, Dover Ladder 2, Dover Engine 6, Leipsic Engine 53-4, Ambulance A-53, Ambulance B-64, Kent County Paramedics, and the Delaware State Fire Marshal's Office.
Assistant Chief Jeff Brown had command.
