Brush Fire Turns into Building Fire

Thursday, July 19, 2018

Sunday evening, Cheswold was alerted to a "small outside fire" on Kenton Road just north of West Denney's Road.  Brush 43-0 arrived to find an outside fire plus a box truck and a 60 X 100 metal building on fire.  They immediately requested a full structural response from Cheswold.  Chief Josh Dempsey had been enroute from a service call several miles away and when he arrived he requested the call be upgraded to include Leipsic for a tanker and Dover for a ladder.  Engine 43-4 arrived and laid 500' of 5" hose from a hydrant at the end of the lane and 3 hose lines in service to attack the fire.  Engine 43-2 arrived next and parked on the north side of the building and placed another hose in service to protect two trailers next to the building.

As other units arrived, the fire was extinguished.  The building was loaded with material and presented a challenge to advancing hose lines inside and overhauling.

Units on scene-Brushe 43-0, Engines 43-2, 43-3, 43-4, Rescue 43, Command 43, Engine 53-4, Tanker 53, & Engine and Ladder 46.  FM 12 from the Delaware State Fire Marshal's Office responded for the investigation.

Chief Dempsey had Command.
