House Fire on New Street

Tuesday, June 25, 2019

Cheswold, Leipsic, and Dover were alerted for a house fire that was reported on Commerce Street in Cheswold.  Chief Josh Dempsey arrived to find a vacant home fully involved in fire on New Street and the house next to it in danger of catching fire as well.  He quickly requested a second alarm bringing Smyrna, Hartly, and Little Creek into staging.  Engine 43-3 dropped a supply line at the fire hydrant at the station to the intersection of Commerce and New.  The firefighters on that engine stopped the fire from spreading to the neighboring home.  Tower 43 arrived next and set up for ladder pipe operations.  Engine 43-2 arrived and completed the hose lay from the intersection to 43-3.  As other units arrived the fire was contained to the orginal building with some exterior damage to two other homes.

This home had caught fire before within the last year and this was another fire in a series in this general area in the last few years.
