Benefit for Bernie Wales - Cheswold

Thursday, July 2, 2015
On Friday, January 8, 2010, a fundraiser will be held at the Cheswold Fire Hall to benefit Past Assistant Chief Bernie Wales. Bernie was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer on October 25, 2008. This illness has disabled Bernie and left him unable to work. His wife Linda is now only able to work part time due to the amount of care that Bernie requires. The co-pays, medical supplies, and travel to the doctor (100 miles each way) to John Hopkins Medical Center in Baltimore, MD has created a financial hardship that makes it difficult for the Wales family to provide basic needs including the necessary prescriptions for Bernies recovery. Bernie requires two medical drainage bottles per day at a monthly out-of-pocket co-pay expense of $830. Although this drainage process is necessary to his survival, there have been times that Bernie is forced to drain every other day due to the high cost. This often causes additional visits to John Hopkins for treatment. This unforeseen medical diagnosis has left the family not only emotionally, but financially distressed. They are humble, proud, and in need of help from the local community. We respectfully request your kind donation of any goods and/or services that you or your organization may be willing to donate for this event. All proceeds of the fundraiser will go directly to Bernie Wales for medical supplies and basic necessities. Questions regarding this event should be directed to Penny Byler, Committee Chairperson at 302-531-8388. Thank you in advance for your consideration. The event will be held on Friday, January 8, from 7 PM to 11 PM at the Cheswold Fire Hall. Tickets are $15 for adults and $8 for children under 12. Music/50-50/Auction & $10 bottomless mug for beer Cash bar
