The annual "Hands On Training" for the Delaware Volunteer Firefighter's Association was held this year at Dover Downs. Experts in large vehicle rescue were brought in to teach our group how to support and/or move large vehicles safely and efficiently. Cheswold provided the special operations truck for the heavy equipment it carries. We were joined by the New Castle team that is based in Claymont. Clayton Fire Company sent an engine and Hartly provided an ambulance crew for the safety of the student. Several scenarios were given to the students that involved a variety of common trucks. With the instructors acting as safety advisors, each group put their own ideas to the test. After each scenario, local tow companies showed the students what their large machines could do to help. It was impressive to see what they had to offer and there was a lot of talk of getting together more often to train.
