Just after 10:30 pm, Cheswold Fire Company, Kent County EMS, and the Delaware State Police Helicopter were dispatched to a pedestrian struck on the Garrison's Lake Bridge. A Smryna ambulance was in the area and arrrived on scene to report a subject trapped under a tractor trailer. When Ambulance B-43 and Rescue 43 responded, Deputy Chief Brown was advised of the new information and requested that the station run Special Operations 43-1 next. Deputy Chief Brown established command and assessed the situation. The person under the truck was determined to be obviously dead by the EMS units so Brown canceled the helicopter and shifted into a recovery mode. Members of Cheswold used airbags and other equipment to lift the trailer off of the victim once the police were finished with their investigation. After the victim was removed, one unit remained on scene to provide lighting until the scene was cleared.
