Cheswold was alerted to assist Clayton (45) on a garage fire early Tuesday evening.  Clayton's Deputy Chief Lightcap arrived to find a garage fire that was threatening to spread into the attached house.  He passed command to Chief Robbie Johnson, who ordered the crew from 45-3 to attack the garage fire and the crew from 43-2 to take a hose into the house.  He also upgraded the response to include Hartly for a rapid intervention team.  Clayton's ladder arrived third and set up in front of the structure.  Other units arrived and were assigned various tasks.

The fire in the garage was extinguished and the fire spread into the house was checked.  Crews located a cat in the residence and crews attempted to revive it without success.

Around 60 firefighters from Clayton, Cheswold, & Hartly fought the blaze and Smyrna's American Legion Ambulance and Kent County Paramedics provided medical standby.
