This past week has been very busy for the Cheswold Fire Company. Assistant Chief Ceruti was busy leading the preparation for the DVFA Conference Parade that was held Saturday. Dan and several other membes spent a lot of time cleaning the apparatus and making sure that everyone had their uniform all together.
Cheswold also hosted the Delaware State Fire Chiefs Association meeting and awards dinner. Our Ladies Auxiliary served over 500 people at this event and of course the planning and preparation involved many hours of work.
Thursday and Friday the special operations truck went to Clayton for the Conference Hands On Training involving rescue firefighters from building collapses due to fire.
Saturday was the parade and we took home several trophies including 1st Best Appearing Ladies Auxiliary, 1st Best Appearing Engine (pre 1985), 1st Best Appearing Ambulance, 8th Best Appearing Fire Company (without music), and 4th Best Appearing Brush Truck. The rain dampened the festivities somewhat, but everyone had fun. The parade committee was offered the special operations truck with it's awnings to keep the trophies dry and they accepted.
Thanks goes out the Neptune Fire Company of Lebanon County, PA for standing by for us again. They handled 3 calls on Friday night.
Sunday was a sad day as we laid to rest Howard "Sonny" Killen, who was a very active Life Member. A large crowd turned out to honor his memory and several local fire companies sent apparatus.
