Building Fire at Roy's Electric

Thursday, July 2, 2015

On Thursday evening just before 8:30PM, A local citizen stopped by Cheswold Fire Co and advised he saw a large amount of smoke in the area of Roy's Electrical Service. A43's crew went to check it out and found smoke coming from the building. The crew contacted Kent Center and advised them to dispatch Cheswold for a Working building fire at Roy's. Cheswold along with Ladder Company 44 and Rescue Company 53 were dispatched. Command 43, 432 were at the State Fire School with E454 and few members from Smyrna training and responded on dispatch.
Rescue 43 responded from the station and arrived to find fire showing from the roof area. Command 43 arrived with Chief Dempsey and assumed command. Past Chief Roy had arrived shortly before Rescue 43 and had unlocked the door. He realized that the fire was in a large curing oven and seemed to be contained to the contents in the oven. Crews Extinguished the fire in the oven and crews checked the roof for extention. The scene was placed under control quickly and remained onscene for overhaul.
Units onscene- Command 43, Rescue 43, 432, 433, 434, 534, 535, A53, 443, Ladder 44, KM5 and 6, and FM14
Due to the quick actions of all onscene, Roy's Electric was able to be open the very next morning. Thanks to all involved.
