Car vs. Train - Hughes Crossing

Thursday, July 2, 2015
Shortly after returning from the collapse call in Camden, Cheswold was alerted to a vehicle accident on McKee Road. The initial caller did not provide much information, but a second call reported that a train was involved so Kent County 911 alerted the county paramedics and Delaware State Police for the helicopter. Ambulance A-43 arrived and advised that the vehicle was well off the roadway between Hughes Crossing and West Denney's Road and that they would be proceeding on foot. They were joined by the crew from Rescue 43. When they arrived at the front of the train, they found a construction-type truck that had been struck in the drivers side and was heavily damaged. There was no one in or around the vehicle and the train crew reported seeing people fleeing after the crash. The scene was turned over to the state police and the railroad personnel. Units: Ambulance A-43, Rescue 43, & Engine 43-4. Deputy Chief Josh Dempsey had the command.
